Clifton Harbour Moorings and Anchorage

12° 35.8′ N · 61° 24.8′ W

A reef-protected harbour off Union's colourful main town, with brilliant turquoise water over the reef, kitesurfers ripping past, the Happy Island bar on its conch-shell islet and the southern Grenadines' clearance port ashore.

Practical

Position is Clifton Harbour as charted in OpenStreetMap seamark data; Noonsite's entrance position is 12.5917, -61.4069. Moorings: the Tobago Cays Marine Park is the only authorised provider of overnight moorings - 19 plain white balls near the reef, EC$60 per 24 hours (Noonsite, updated Feb 2025). Six authorised assistants with TCMP-branded cards may help you tie up; pay only a uniformed TCMP ranger (or the TCMP office, Monday to Friday 8 am to 4 pm), who collects the card. Private 'freelance' moorings are also offered; TCMP has no oversight and some vendors are pushy - one well-known scam rents out a day-charter cat's mooring. Anchoring: not permitted near the reef (part of the marine park); anchor on the west side of the bay. Holding is variable and the harbour is very windy - one cruiser dragged from 2.2 m to 5.1 m in 30-knot gusts. Hazards: marked and unmarked obstructions exist in the mooring field; watch your approach even when guided. Snorkel on the reef but watch for kitesurfers. Security: dinghy, outboard and petty theft are common; lift and lock at night. Dinghy docks: Bougainvilla (outside L'Aquarium) and the Anchorage Yacht Club.
