Clarkes Court Bay Anchorage (Woburn)

12° 0.3′ N · 61° 44.0′ W · approximate

Clarkes Court Bay, formerly Woburn Bay, is a large, mangrove-fringed and reef-protected bay north of Hog Island and Calivigny Island. Two marinas, a big boatyard, the Woburn bus dock and rum-shop bars make it one of the main places cruisers spend hurricane season.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap Woburn Bay node (approx), checked to be in the water. Enter by the well-buoyed channel. There are many anchoring options: near Whisper Cove, off Hog Island, in Benji Bay or off Calivigny Island. Some moorings are available (Noonsite, Melon on the Go). It is a popular hurricane hole. The water near the Clarkes Court end can be murky and smelly from river runoff, so swim further out (Melon on the Go, 2019). Lower Woburn has a public dinghy dock with buses to St George's. Noonsite (January 2025) reports outboard-fuel siphoning, dinghy and engine theft, and loose items stolen at the Woburn docks despite a light and camera; CSSN logged thefts there in 2024 and 2026. Drive dinghies slowly at night, because local boats run fast, and a cruiser died in a dinghy collision here in August 2019. Water barges have delivered here (2015 report).
