Castries Central Market
14° 0.7′ N · 60° 59.4′ W
The island's biggest market, in a red-roofed 1894 iron building on the Castries waterfront, with produce, spices, cocoa sticks, hot sauces and breakfast stalls: rated by National Geographic among the world's top food markets.
Practical
Coordinate is the OpenStreetMap marketplace node. Open every day; Saturday is the liveliest, when farmers come in from across the island; go early, as breakfast stalls open around 6 am (Saint Lucia Tourism Authority). Over 300 regular vendors; fish is no longer sold here; the Vendor's Arcade across the road (opened 1996) sells crafts and food (Wikipedia). Cash in EC$, small notes; US$ widely accepted. Reach it on the Route 1A bus or by taxi from Rodney Bay (Noonsite); from an anchorage in Vigie Cove it is a short walk. Big supermarkets (Massy) are nearby in town.
