Carlisle Bay Marine Park Wrecks
13° 5.2′ N · 59° 36.7′ W · approximate
Six wrecks lie just off Browne's Beach, close enough to swim to: the 1919 tug Berwyn in 7-10 ft, plus the Bajan Queen, the Eillon, the Ce-Trek, the WWII-torpedoed Cornwallis and the former coast-guard flagship Trident, all wrapped in coral with turtles and rays drifting through.
Practical
Position is the Berwyn from the OpenStreetMap wreck seamarks (approx); the Bajan Queen, Eillon and Cornwallis lie within about 100 m. Depths: Berwyn 7-10 ft depending on tide (Barbados Pocket Guide; Wanderlusters gives 20 ft max). Bajan Queen 35 ft max, sunk 2002. Eillon 55 ft max, a seized drug-runner sunk in 1996 with an enterable hold. MV Trident sunk on April 28, 2016. Snorkellers can swim out from the beach opposite the Bandstand on Bay Street (about seven minutes); the Berwyn is the realistic snorkel target and the deeper wrecks are for scuba. The park is a protected area managed by the Coastal Zone Management Unit: take nothing, don't touch or feed turtles, and snorkel when few boats are around and follow the buoys. Do not anchor on the wrecks. Several dive shops run daily trips. A hyperbaric chamber run by the Barbados Defence Force operates 24/7 (Visit Barbados).
