Anse Couleuvre Beach and Trail to Grand-Rivière

14° 50.5′ N · 61° 13.2′ W

From Anse Couleuvre, the old coastal path to Grand-Rivière runs along the roadless northern tip of Martinique past cliffs, wild coves and rainforest. A shorter riverside trail climbs to the Couleuvre waterfall.

Practical

Martinique tourism: the Grand-Rivière - Le Prêcheur trail is an ancient coastal path and one of the island's most beautiful hikes, but it needs preparation: weather, fitness and trail conditions. It is one-way, so arrange a car or taxi back from Grand-Rivière (a long drive round by the Atlantic coast). The Cascade Couleuvre trail, built in 2007, follows the river about 1,600 m from the Anse Couleuvre car park, past an old bridge, a cassava vat, cocoa trees and big zamana trees. It gets steeper and wilder as you go. The beach has strong currents. Position is the beach (OSM).
