Anse Couleuvre Anchorage

14° 50.5′ N · 61° 13.3′ W · approximate

A wild cove of two grey-sand beaches under towering cliffs and jungle, facing Îlet la Perle, at the end of the road on Martinique's northwest tip: a rare quiet anchorage in fair weather, with excellent snorkelling.

Practical

No published cruising-guide soundings were found. The position is approximate, derived about 250 m west of the beach (OSM). Martinique tourism says the cove attracts experienced surfers, so it takes swell, and warns of current. Wikipedia says a strong current makes the beach dangerous. Use it only in calm, settled conditions, with an anchor watch, and leave if a N or W swell is forecast. The cove is within the Réserve naturelle marine du Prêcheur - Albert Falco (created 2014), so check its anchoring and fishing rules first. The beach is split by the Couleuvre river. The car park is tiny and the access road very narrow, but it fills in high season.
