Mount Resaca Trail

18° 19.4′ N · 65° 17.4′ W · approximate

A rough scramble up Culebra's highest hill through a rare boulder forest, one of the few parts of the island the Navy years left largely unaltered, with views north over the Atlantic.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap summit node 'Monte Resaca' (node 357269947); the trailhead was not found in current sources. Height: Coast Pilot 650 ft; Wikipedia 623 ft. FWS: the boulder forest is a small, hard-to-reach section of the refuge. Wikipedia: Monte Resaca is co-managed by FWS and Puerto Rico's DRNA. Refuge trails are open 6 am to 6 pm. Ask at the refuge office (Carr. 250 Km 3.5) for current access and the route before going: the path is steep and rocky, and there is no water.

Best for
