The bold 578-ft Mary Point headland and the sheltered creek behind it, where the reef along the point's base has gorgonians, sponges and anemones.

Practical

Position is the GNIS point for Mary Creek (water). Coast Pilot 5: Mary Point is a ridge headland connected to St John by a low divide separating Francis Bay from Mary Creek; its west end has 135-ft bluffs and the north shore weatherbeaten cliffs with large boulders. NPS: from Francis Bay, snorkel northwest toward Mary Point for gorgonians, tube sponges and anemones in about 10 ft. Mary's Creek is closed to commercial vessel groups except authorized dive operations, and anchoring in Mary's Creek (or anywhere in park waters) to ride out bad weather is prohibited (Compendium 2026). Dinghy over from Francis Bay; expect current off the point.
