Luis Peña Channel Natural Reserve

18° 18.6′ N · 65° 19.3′ W

A no-fishing marine reserve covering the channel between Culebra and Cayo Luis Peña: seagrass meadows grazed by green turtles, rays, and patch and fringing reef off Tamarindo, Melones and the cay itself.

Practical

Position: OpenStreetMap 'Reserva Natural Canal de Luis Peña' (node 3406559862). Wikivoyage: a no-fishing zone next to Tamarindo Beach. Culebra Divers (2026) runs boat snorkel trips here and includes the Luis Peña Nature Reserve fee in its tour price; it was not clear from sources what fee, if any, applies to private yachts: ask the DRNA (Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources) locally. Do not fish, collect, or anchor on coral or seagrass. Current in the channel is about 2 knots (Coast Pilot).
