Horseshoe Reef Rules (No Anchoring, No Lobster Taking)

18° 40.0′ N · 64° 12.0′ W · approximate

Horseshoe Reef and the reefs around Anegada are protected: anchoring on the reef is prohibited by the BVI government, lobster may be taken only by licensed BVI fishers, and conch harvesting is strictly limited.

Practical

Position is approximate: the GeoNames label point for Horse Shoe Reef. Anchoring on Horseshoe Reef is illegal (Anegada Reef Hotel; BVI Tourism). Lobster can be taken only by BVI residents/licensed commercial fishermen (Yacht Warriors; The Moorings). National Parks Trust day moorings elsewhere in the BVI require a Marine Conservation Permit and are for day use only (BVI National Parks Trust); Setting Point's overnight balls are privately run and paid to the collector. Anchor only in sand in the Setting Point/Pomato Point roadstead. Anegada is not a port of entry: clear into the BVI before you visit.
