Great Harbour Mooring Field (Jost Van Dyke)
18° 26.5′ N · 64° 45.1′ W · approximate
Jost Van Dyke's main harbour and port of entry: a deep, hill-ringed bay whose sand street is lined with Foxy's, Corsairs and a string of beach bars. Most boats now lie on moorings, and it is the standard overnight if you are clearing in or going to Foxy's.
Practical
Position is approximate: the middle of the bay, inside Noonsite's approach waypoint (18°26.1'N, 64°45.0'W) and outside the reef that runs about 300 yards off the beach (OpenStreetMap coastline used to keep it in the water). Coast Pilot 5 gives depths of 4 fathoms (about 24 ft) to within about 0.2 mile of the head of the bay; Yacht Warriors notes the anchoring areas are deeper and limited. Noonsite (Jan 2024) says holding is uncertain and space limited, and that moorings now cover most of the bay, so use one. BoatyBall lists Great Harbour as a reservable field: balls are released at 7 am local time each morning, cost US$55/night for reservable balls (2026 BoatyBall guide), and check-in/out is 12 pm; first-come balls are also in the field. Keep the ferry lane off the Government (Dog Hole) jetty on the west side clear. Dinghy theft is a recurring problem here: Noonsite and CSSN advise lifting and locking the dinghy at night and locking it ashore.
