Foxy's Tamarind Bar

18° 26.7′ N · 64° 44.9′ W

The barefoot beach bar Philicianno 'Foxy' Callwood opened under a tamarind tree in 1968 to welcome visiting yachts, often called the birthplace of BVI yacht tourism. Live music, honor-bar spirit, a big barbecue, and the island's most famous Old Year's Night party.

Practical

At the east end of the Great Harbour beach; land the dinghy at the dock near Foxy's. Open daily 9 am to 12 am (depending on crowd), Atlantic Standard Time, per foxysbar.com (2026). Foxy himself is often around the BBQ area in the mornings and early afternoons. Noonsite lists Friday and Saturday barbecues, rotis and flying fish sandwiches at lunch, and grilled fish and lobster at dinner; Wikivoyage advises reserving for the BBQ nights. Event calendar (2026-27): Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, Old Year's Night (Dec 31), Jost Lime & Dine (early February), St Patrick's Day, Memorial Day Weekend Wooden Boat Regatta, Foxy's Birthday Bash (late Aug/early Sept) and the Cat Fight Regatta (late October). Dress code per the bar: please wear clothing. After Hurricane Irma (2017) Foxy's served as the island's recovery command center.
