Fortsberg (Fort Frederiksvaern)
18° 20.7′ N · 64° 42.3′ W
The Danish fort on the 426-ft hill above Coral Bay where the 1733 Akwamu-led slave revolt began, one of the earliest and longest slave rebellions in the Americas.
Practical
Position is the GNIS summit point for Fortsberg. First built 1717, rebuilt 1760 with four bastions over the earlier ruins; a shore battery about 1,000 ft southeast once held five cannon (Wikipedia, NRHP 1976). On 23 November 1733 enslaved Akwamu people seized the fort and held most of the island for about six months (Wikipedia). Access on the ground was not verified: treat it as a landmark seen from the water unless you confirm access locally.
