A cluster of artificial-reef shipwrecks off the West End: the deep wrecks Rosaomaira (to about 117 ft) and the tug Coakley Bay (about 60 ft), and the shallow trawler Suffolk Maid, tug Northwind, barge Virgin Islander and the old Aegir undersea habitat.
Practical
Coordinate from GoToStCroix's Deep Wrecks listing (the Shallow Wrecks listing is at 17.75006 N, 64.89147 W). Butler Bay is 2.7 miles north of Frederiksted off Route 63. Best by boat: from shore it is a strenuous 15 to 20 minute surface swim with possible current. Visibility 80 to 100 ft, up to 200 ft; usually little current and calm seas in the bay. Shallow wrecks: Virgin Islander about 70 ft, Suffolk Maid 60 ft, Northwind about 55 ft (GoToStCroix). Do not anchor on the wrecks; use a dive operator's moorings.
