Booby Rock (Salt Pond Bay)
18° 18.1′ N · 64° 42.6′ W
A rocky outcrop off the south shore near Ram Head and Salt Pond Bay, dived as a current-swept reef with parrotfish, surgeonfish and trumpetfish around its base.
Practical
Position is the GNIS point for Booby Rock (feature class island). DivePlannerPro describes a reef dive following the rock's base down from current-swept upper sections to sheltered faces, logged as a drift dive, and diver reports there (2023 to 2024) range from no current to moderate current; treat its 'beginner friendly' rating with caution on this exposed south-shore corner. Depths are not published by a verified source. It sits off Salt Pond Bay, where the park prohibits anchoring for boats over 16 ft, so treat it as park water: dive it from a Salt Pond Bay NPS mooring by dinghy, or from a dive boat on a red NPS scuba mooring (red moorings are for scuba use only and day-use only, per the 2026 Compendium). Exposed to southerly and southeasterly swell; keep well off the Drunk Bay lee shore and Eagle Shoal to the east (CBYC).
Best for
An advanced-ish rock dive near Salt Pond on a calm day
Season
Calm days in normal trades; avoid in south swell
