Bahía Sardinas / Dewey Anchorage
18° 18.0′ N · 65° 18.3′ W · approximate
The open roadstead off Dewey on Culebra's west side, where the ferries land: the easiest place to drop the hook if arriving from the west, but rarely anyone's favorite.
Practical
Position is the OpenStreetMap 'Bahía de Sardinas' label (node 368381552), checked to be in water. Coast Pilot 5 (ch. 13): harbor for the towns of Culebra (Dewey) and Clark Village; the boat and ferry landing at Playa de Sardinas has 8 ft at the end; fishing boats use the harbor; the tidal current is weak off the entrance. The Virgintino guide (about 2015): easy to reach but not a great anchorage; swell can work round the northeast point and ferry wakes roll you; with Ensenada Honda so close it has nothing compelling. You cannot take a keelboat into Ensenada Honda via the canal/lagoon. Keep clear of the ferry approach.
