Ranong Customs, Immigration and Harbour (Andaman north port of entry)

9° 57.3′ N · 98° 35.5′ E

Ranong, on the Kra Buri river opposite Kawthaung in Myanmar, is the northern Andaman port of entry. It is used for clearing in or out when cruising to or from the Mergui Archipelago.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM-mapped Ranong Immigration checkpoint at Saphan Pla, which Wikivoyage places in the port building behind the petrol station. Also mapped (OSM/Nominatim): Ranong Customs House at 9.94921, 98.59584, the Ranong Province Immigration Office at 9.95210, 98.59997, and the Marine Department regional branch office (Harbour) at 10.00453, 98.61341. Anchor off the town on mud at about 09°58.000N, 98°35.400E, away from the busy jetties (Southeast Asia Pilot). Noonsite lists Ranong among Thailand's ports of entry, but a cruiser comment on Noonsite describes friends clearing out at Ranong for Burma who were nearly sent back to Ao Chalong, so call ahead or use an agent. AIS must be on; register on the Marine Department single window. Myanmar entry rules for yachts change with the political situation, and Wikivoyage warns that crossing at Kawthaung may be restricted because of the civil war. Verify every fee locally.
