Kawthaung Border Crossing (Myanmar)

9° 57.0′ N · 98° 35.8′ E

The river crossing from Ranong's Saphan Pla to Kawthaung, Myanmar's southern tip and the gateway to the Mergui Archipelago.

Practical

Coordinate is the Ranong Customs House (OSM/Nominatim) on the Saphan Pla waterfront. Foot passengers clear Thai exit at the immigration office in the Saphan Pla port building, then cross by longtail in about 20 minutes (about 300 THB return, negotiated); be back by 4pm to re-enter (Wikivoyage). Wikivoyage warns that entry from this border for tourism may be restricted because of the civil war in Myanmar. Yachts need prior permission to enter Myanmar waters, so check the current position before planning. The Southeast Asia Pilot says permission is needed even to enter the waters north of Surin.

Best for
