Promthep Cape Viewpoint
7° 45.7′ N · 98° 18.3′ E
The southernmost tip of Phuket and the island's classic sunset spot, crowned by the white Kanchanaphisek Lighthouse (1996) with a small free museum and a Brahma shrine surrounded by hundreds of elephant statues. Seen from the sea, it is the landmark you round between the west coast and Chalong.
Practical
Free entry and free parking. The lighthouse tower is 19 m tall on a cliff that puts the light 95 m above the sea; it flashes white every 9 seconds (Phuket 101; check your light list, which lists it under Laem Phra Chao). Sunset is around 6pm-6:30pm depending on season; arrive 30 minutes early. Quiet during the day. From the water, the sea off the cape is often confused, especially with wind against tide (SEAP).
