Practical
Southeast Asia Pilot position 9°38.097'N 99°40.479'E, 19 nm from Nathon. Anchor off the northeast side in about 8 m on mud; take a park mooring in preference if one is free and dive on it to check. Approach from the north or east, keeping well clear of the underwater reefs off Koh Phi. Heading north to Koh Mae Ko, a coral head sits mid-passage and can be passed on either side. Park fee: thainationalparks.com (May 2026) lists 300 THB per foreign adult and 150 THB per foreign child (3-14), 40/20 THB for Thais; Southeast Asia Pilot (2025 edition) quotes about 500 THB per person and the Thailand area file repeats 500 THB, so expect 300-500 THB and verify locally. Park open 8am to 5pm daily, and normally closed 1 November to 15 December for the NE monsoon. Ashore: bungalows, campground, restaurant and small shop. Day-tour boats come out from Samui every day, so overnight here for a quieter beach and an early viewpoint climb. Water is usually turbid with limited visibility. Island Spirit charter guide (2023): this is the most protected anchorage in the park and the only one it recommends overnight; anchor in 7-10 m in thick mud off the beach, well clear of the yellow day-boat mooring; gusts swirl round the bay as storms pass and the current often holds boats beam-on. A few moorings lie around HQ and one off the little island offshore, usable overnight but needed by day-trip boats in the daytime. It quoted 300 THB per person plus 40 THB for the boat in 2023: verify locally. Dinghy to the north end of the beach, watching for rocks near shore.
