Koh Tao Northeast Monsoon Isolation (Nov–Feb)
10° 5.4′ N · 99° 50.3′ E · approximate
From about November to February the northeast monsoon can whip up seas rough enough to stop boat traffic to Koh Tao for days at a time, with poor visibility and choppy water.
Practical
Position is the island centre (Wikipedia). SE Asia Pilot: the NE season (November to February) can bring rough seas that halt boat traffic for days. New Heaven Dive School describes a brief monsoon from November through December, with November the only month when conditions may not be ideal. Wikivoyage: in November visibility drops to about 5 m and seas are choppy. In these months use the west and south-coast moorings (Sairee, Mae Haad, Chalok, Ao Thian Og) and avoid the north and east bays. Medical evacuation can be delayed because the nearest hospitals are on Samui and in Chumphon.
