Koh Bubu

7° 33.6′ N · 99° 8.6′ E

A tiny wooded islet ringed by a sand beach about 3 nm east of Lanta Old Town, the southern gatepost of the approach into the Koh Kam Yai basin.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot: approach the Koh Kam Yai anchorage from the south, passing between Koh Bubu and Koh Kam Noi. OpenStreetMap maps Koh Bubu Beach and a boat landing on the west side (7.5593, 99.1429) and a Koh Lanta - Koh Bubu longtail route from the Lanta Old Town side. The islet is only about 450 m across (OpenStreetMap outline). No published anchorage, depths, moorings or facilities; treat it as a lunch or swim stop in settled weather and sound in carefully, since the water inshore between Lanta and these islets is shallow. Position: OpenStreetMap Koh Bubu Beach node.

Best for

Swim stop on the way into Koh Kam Yai

Season

Nov-Apr; the east side of Lanta is also the better SW-season side
