Golden Pearl and Andaman Beach Anchorage (Koh Jum)

7° 48.0′ N · 98° 58.0′ E · approximate

An open roadstead off Koh Jum's long west-facing beach, where Golden Pearl Beach in the south runs into Andaman Beach (together called Long Beach), with Phi Phi on the sunset horizon. Bungalow restaurants and beach bars line the sand, and it is the quietest overnight between Krabi and Lanta.

Practical

Position approx: placed about 700 m west of the OpenStreetMap coastline at 7.80N, in front of Andaman Beach Resort (OSM 7.7996N 98.9751E) and Koh Jum Beach Villas. No cruising-guide soundings were found for this spot (the Southeast Asia Pilot does not cover Koh Jum), so approach on the chart and sounder, in daylight, on a rising tide. The beach slopes gently on coarse sand (phuketferry.com), and rocks separate the beaches, so land the dinghy at mid to high tide. The scheduled Krabi–Lanta ferries do not dock on Koh Jum; in high season (late October to late April) they stop off this coast and longtails ferry passengers ashore (Wikivoyage), so keep clear of the ferry stop. A west-facing shore: a fair-weather anchorage in the NE monsoon only. Many resorts close completely in the SW monsoon. No fuel dock or water point; the island's shops, clinic and village pier are on the east side at Ban Koh Jum.
