Ao Sri Thanu / Zen Beach

9° 45.3′ N · 99° 57.8′ E

A small volcanic peninsula on the west coast north of Thong Sala, where the headland pushes the land out into the coral so you can snorkel straight off the beach in the shelter of the bay. Sunset-facing and the island's yoga-and-retreat hub.

Practical

Position from Wikidata (Sri Thanu peninsula). Wikivoyage: reef offshore allows snorkelling and diving just off the beach with the bay's protection; a 10-minute taxi from Thong Sala. The SE Asia Pilot marks a fishing port in a cleared channel through the fringing reef just south of the island's western point (09°45.186N 099°57.719E), close to here: keep to the channel if you bring the dinghy in. A Family Mart and small shops are in Sri Thanu village (OpenStreetMap). West-facing: calm in the NE monsoon, exposed to the SW monsoon.
