Ao Wok Tum Anchorage

9° 44.5′ N · 99° 58.4′ E · approximate

A wide, shallow, palm-backed bay just north of Thong Sala on the west coast, with what a Thai travel listing calls the widest coral reef on Koh Phangan and long tidal flats that empty at low water.

Practical

Position approximate: the OpenStreetMap bay node for Ao Wok Tum (node 4790594108, Wikidata Q31885851), roughly 650 m off the beach (mapped at 9.7373N 99.9789E). It is not a surveyed anchorage, and no cruising guide gives depths here. Lovethailand.org describes a shallow, gently sloping seabed of sand, pools, seagrass and coral, with the sea retreating at low tide to expose a wide coastal flat. So stay well out beyond the reef edge, sound in, and anchor only on clear sand; land the dinghy near high water only. West-facing: a calm-weather and NE-monsoon stop, exposed to the SW monsoon. Seagrass and coral here are protected habitat: do not anchor on or walk over them. Road access south to Thong Sala (supermarkets, fuel) is a few minutes by taxi; the Thong Sala anchorage (SE Asia Pilot) is the better-documented alternative a short way south.
