Ao Nathon Anchorage

9° 32.2′ N · 99° 55.8′ E

The roadstead off Nathon, Samui's west-coast town and port, where yachts anchor to clear in and stock up. It faces Ang Thong and the mainland, so you get sunsets over the islands while the ferries come and go.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot position 9°32.188'N 99°55.770'E. Anchor in 7-10 m well clear of the jetties, which are busy with fast passenger and car ferries (Seatran, Songserm, Lomprayah and night boats), the fishing fleet and bulk cargo. Open to the west, so it is best in the northeast monsoon and becomes a lee shore in strong southwest winds. Customs and the Harbour Master are near the jetty. Fuel and water can be had on the main jetty by prior arrangement only. Ashore: market, shops, banks, post office and a Lotus's supermarket (OSM lists 9am to 9pm daily). Workshops and hardware stores in Nathon are among the few technical resources on the island. The Pilot's charts are not for navigation, so use official charts.

Best for

Clearing in and out, and provisioning on the west coast

Season

Best Nov-Apr in NE winds; exposed to the SW monsoon
