Ao Labu North Anchorage

8° 1.7′ N · 98° 33.7′ E

A long, casuarina-fringed bay on Koh Yao Yai's northwest coast, the favourite first or last night for charter yachts out of Ao Po and Yacht Haven, with a creek winding two miles inland.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot waypoint 08°1.741N 98°33.695E, about 16 nm from Yacht Haven. Anchor in 5–6 m, mud, roughly due east of the headland. Excellent NE-monsoon shelter, with few longtails or speedboats. About half a dozen government moorings are here, but yachts have grounded on them at low tide, so check depth before using one. Coral outcrops lie in the bay; don't anchor too close in. At very low tide the bay is shallow a long way out. The river mouth in the north corner runs about 2 nm inland toward a coconut and rubber settlement and is good for walks and dinghy trips. Coco Beach Resort, about 5 nm north near the Chong Koh Yao entrance, has beach restaurants and a sea water park, which suits families.
