Ao Khlong Son Anchorage

12° 8.7′ N · 102° 15.3′ E

The wide sandy bay at Koh Chang's northwest tip, closest to the mainland ferries. It is the staging anchorage for the creek-mouth Siam Royal View Marina, with a village of laundries, 7-Elevens and fresh-food shops a short walk away.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot waypoint 12°08.699N 102°15.258E, 101 nm from Ocean Marina (Jomtien). Anchor anywhere in the bay in 4–5 m, sand. To go into the marina, head southeast toward the Grand Orchid Resort on the southern headland, then pass through the port and starboard channel marks into the river mouth; the channel carries about 1 m at LAT, so deeper boats wait for the flood (see the Khlong Son Entrance passage). Call VHF 19 or 69 for a local guide into the creek. Ashore (Noonsite): laundries, scooter hire, a basic hardware store, restaurants, two 7-Elevens and local shops with meat, fish, eggs, fruit and vegetables on the ring road and in Khlong Son village. White Sands, the main tourist strip, is over the hill by taxi truck.

Best for

First or last night on Koh Chang, and the approach to Siam Royal View Marina

Season

Best in the NE monsoon (Nov–Apr); check swell exposure in SW winds
