La Passe Harbour (La Digue)
4° 20.8′ S · 55° 49.7′ E · approximate
La Digue's small ferry and fishing harbour, dredged into the reef on the northwest coast with a breakwater against the northwest monsoon, and the island's best all-weather shelter. Step ashore into the bicycle-and-ox-cart village of La Passe, with Anse Source d'Argent a 15-minute ride south.
Practical
Coordinate is approximate: a point inside the harbour basin between the north mole and the ferry jetty, derived from the OpenStreetMap coastline. The Moorings calls this the best all-weather anchorage on La Digue; there are no mooring buoys, but stern-to mooring inside the harbour is possible. The harbour takes only 3 or 4 visiting yachts at a time and you must contact the harbour master before arrival (Moorings eGuide, printed January 2026). Official tariff (Harbour (Port and Harbour Dues) Regulations 2023, SI 98 of 2023, Schedule 2 item 7): every vessel other than ferries, belonging to a non-resident of La Digue, moored or anchored in the La Digue Inner Harbour pays SCR 65 for the first 24 hours and SCR 275 for each further 24 hours if under 10 m LOA, or SCR 90 then SCR 325 if over 10 m (figures read from the gazette's scanned tables; verify locally). The Inner Harbour is the area bounded by 04°20.00'S 055°48.20'E, 04°20.00'S 055°49.00'E, Pointe Cap Barbe (04°20.53'S 055°49.72'E), the coast to Anse Réunion (04°21.50'S 055°49.51'E) and 04°21.80'S 055°48.00'E, so anchoring off the harbour mouth is also inside it. Keep the ferry fairway clear: Cat Cocos and the Praslin inter-island boats run all day. Depths and holding are not published in the sources consulted; enter in good light. Charter boats must be secured at least one hour before sunset (no night sailing).
