Brissare Rocks Dive
4° 32.0′ S · 55° 29.4′ E · approximate
A cluster of granite rocks breaking the surface north-east of Mahé between Victoria and Mamelles, with swim-throughs, giant clams and schooling snappers, barracuda and fusiliers, and a reputation for reef sharks, eagle and mobula rays when the current runs.
Practical
Approximate: coordinate is the GeoNames 'Brisans Rocks' feature (S 4°31'58", E 55°29'21"), taken to be the dive operators' 'Brissare Rocks' (spelling varies); it agrees within about 300 m with the numbered marker on Big Blue Divers' printed dive-site map (2020). Seyvillas: about 5 km north of Mahé, down to 20 m, strong currents that draw larger fish such as small sharks and barracudas; best September to May. Big Blue Divers site 52: 0-20 m, granite rocks with surge and/or current; reef sharks, stingrays, giant clams, eagle rays, mobula rays, dolphins, seasonal whale sharks, lionfish and a swim-through. Lots of fire coral reported, so wear a full suit. Dive with a licensed Seychelles centre (Big Blue Divers lists it as a long-distance boat trip from Beau Vallon); do not anchor a yacht on the rocks. Exposed to the open sea: skip it in a big SE trade-wind swell.
