Ennerdale Wreck Dive

4° 30.0′ S · 55° 31.0′ E

The broken hull of RFA Ennerdale, a 216 m Royal Fleet Auxiliary tanker that hit an uncharted pinnacle leaving Port Victoria on 1 June 1970; now in three sections and one of Seychelles' best-known wreck dives, with giant groupers, moray eels, eagle rays and schools of fusiliers and barracuda.

Practical

Position as recorded by Historical RFA: 04°30'S 55°31'E (low precision, nearest minute). The Navy blew the wreck apart with explosives and torpedo warheads to release her fuel oil; Historical RFA says she lies in three sections in 30 fathoms and a wreck buoy was laid in 1970. Big Blue Divers lists it among its long-distance dive sites. Diving in Seychelles requires a local divemaster, so book with a licensed centre rather than diving from your own boat (The Moorings). Strong currents were reported during the salvage work.
