Anse Takamaka Anchorage
4° 46.6′ S · 55° 29.5′ E · approximate
A day anchorage off one of Mahé's prettiest beaches near the southern tip, for snorkelling the rocks at the southern end and a Creole lunch at Chez Batista; strictly a settled-weather stop.
Practical
Coordinate derived: inside the bay south-west of the OSM bay label, about 170 m off the beach and checked to be in water; no published soundings, so sound in carefully and anchor on sand only. SETTLED WEATHER ONLY: Seyvillas warns that waves and currents can be strong here, the south coast takes the open Indian Ocean swell, and the SE trades (May-September, often 15-25 knots with stronger gusts in July-August per The Moorings) wrap round Mahé's southern point; in the NW monsoon the bay is open to the west. Leave if any swell builds. Expect a surf landing for the dinghy; land near the rocks at the south end. No services beyond the restaurant (OSM: breakfast 8am-9:30am, lunch Mon-Sat 12:30pm-7pm, Sunday Creole buffet 1pm-4pm; verify locally).
Best for
A calm-day lunch and snorkel stop
Season
Only on calm days between the monsoons (Apr–May, Oct–Nov); avoid in SE trades swell and NW monsoon
