Verde Island Drop-off

13° 32.0′ N · 121° 5.9′ E · approximate

Puerto Galera's premier dive: two pinnacles breaking the surface off Verde Island in the middle of the passage, falling away as a wall into very deep water, swarming with anthias, fusiliers, triggerfish and, in the blue, tuna, trevally and reef sharks.

Practical

Position approx: derived from dive guides placing the drop-off on Verde Island's east/south-east side (Dive The World: east coast; Scandi Divers: east side; DivePlanIt: southern end) next to OSM San Agapito village (13.53111N 121.09302E); your operator will find the pinnacles. Divers drop in at the pinnacle tops around 5 m; wall dive 10-30 m (DivePlanIt). Currents mild to very strong depending on tide, with down-currents - experienced divers only, often a negative entry, stay on the wall. Volcanic bubble streams, banded sea kraits, hawksbill turtles, frogfish. About an hour's bangka ride from Puerto Galera. Nearby: the Washing Machine (shallow, about 16 m, seven canyons and swim-throughs, ferocious changeable current - reef hook) and Verde Island Wall on the west side (unpredictable current, eagle rays) (Dive The World; Scandi Divers).
