USS New York Wreck
14° 48.3′ N · 120° 16.8′ E
The armoured cruiser USS New York, later USS Rochester, was scuttled in Subic Bay on 24 December 1941 to keep her out of Japanese hands. She now lies relatively intact in the inner bay and is Subic's showpiece wreck dive.
Practical
Wikipedia position 14°48'18"N 120°16'46"E (OSM marks it about 400 m north). Depth 17-30 m (55-100 ft), with the hull at roughly 18-27 m. Wikivoyage describes a roughly 120 m hull in about 27 m of water between Alava Pier and the Cubi Point runway. US Navy demolition in July 1967 badly damaged the midsection. Penetration is technical and two divers died on the wreck, so dive it with a local operator and proper wreck training. The wreck lies in the commercial port area near Alava Wharf: do not anchor a yacht on it, and get harbour-movement permission. Visibility in the inner bay is often poor after rain.
