Sumilon Island Anchorage

9° 26.0′ N · 123° 23.5′ E · approximate

A small coral island off Oslob with a Spanish watchtower, a lighthouse, a shifting white sandbar and the upmarket Bluewater Sumilon resort - Webb's guide suggests anchoring off the east-north-east beach.

Practical

Approximate position off Sumilon's ENE shore, derived from the island centre (9.4317°N 123.3896°E, OpenStreetMap); verify depth and bottom - anchor on sand only. Webb (2009): in SW weather the best anchorage is probably off the beach in the ENE. Sumilon was the Philippines' pioneering marine sanctuary (Silliman University, 1974); 17 ha of the island is leased to the Sumilon Bluewater resort and the surrounding waters are dive sites. Lighthouse at 9.4303°N 123.3906°E beside the ruined baluarte. Strong tidal streams in the Cebu Strait.
