Subic Bay Yacht Club
14° 49.2′ N · 120° 17.4′ E
The biggest yachting facility in the Philippines: a former US Navy waterfront turned members' club and marina at the head of a deep, mountain-ringed bay that cruisers rate the best typhoon shelter in the country. It is the easiest place in the Philippines to clear in, provision and get boat work done.
Practical
Southeast Asia Pilot position 14°49.210'N 120°17.396'E; 250 serviced berths for yachts up to 40 m, 70 NM from Manila Yacht Club. Book a berth in advance and ask for your berth number and a marina plan. Call port control on VHF 16 when you reach Grande Island, then the marina on VHF 72 for line handlers (2024 cruiser report). Do not enter after dark the first time: the marina is dark against the shore lights and the low pontoons are hard to see. Visitors are welcome. Short-stay rates are high by Philippine standards: US$110/day for a 12.6 m catamaran with a 3-day minimum, plus a cash security deposit (June 2023). A 1-year 'Term Membership', renewable three times, cuts berth rates to about a third. It cost PHP 100,000 in 2019; one 2024 report paid PHP 31,500/month for a 75 ft berth on term membership. Verify locally; the marina raised prices on 1 May 2024. Proof of third-party insurance is required. If you berth here, the marina handles clearance at no charge and you pay only Customs, Immigration and Quarantine, reported as US$150 ($50 per authority) in 2023. Water is drinkable but heavily chlorinated and charged by the cubic metre. Shore power is on a 63 A supply, but one large motor yacht could draw only 32 A before the dock fuse blew. Some timber docks were in poor repair in 2024. Staff collect rubbish daily. The whole bay is dirty with floating trash from Olongapo's river, so expect extra bottom cleaning. The marina accepts courier deliveries. Weekend club events can be noisy. Fuel: see Subic Fuel entry.
