Marigondon Cave (Mactan)

10° 15.5′ N · 123° 59.1′ E · approximate

A deep wall dive off Plantation Bay on Mactan's south-east coast that ends at a cave mouth around 30-38 m, home to flashlight fish and 'electric' scallops - an advanced, torch-lit dive rather than a sightseeing reef.

Practical

Position from wannadive.net (10°15.541'N 123°59.116'E, WGS84, flagged approximate), in front of Plantation Bay Resort, about 8 minutes by boat from Kontiki. Cave entrance 30-38 m deep, cave roughly 40 m long; northwest of the cave the bottom flattens at about 45 m and then drops to about 72 m some 50 m further out. Current listed as 1-2 knots. Listed dangers: depth and current; a torch is required. Wannadive suggests advanced certification with rescue training; the MySSI listing describes a roof at about 29 m and floor near 40 m and recommends sidemount or twinset - this is a technical-leaning dive, so go only with a local operator, on nitrox/deco planning appropriate to the profile. Not a yacht anchorage: the Hilutungan Channel here is deep and busy.
