Holy Week on Bantayan
11° 10.0′ N · 123° 43.2′ E
Bantayan's Holy Week is the island's peak season: crowds come for the beaches and for night processions of life-sized images on carnival-style floats on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
Practical
Coordinates are the Bantayan church. Accommodation and ferries from Hagnaya fill up - book ahead or arrive by yacht early and anchor off Santa Fe or Jilantangan. Fishing traditionally stops during the Lenten period here (from the 1824 indult tradition), so fresh fish can be scarce; residents do not observe meat abstinence. Dates follow Easter (March or April).
Best for
A festival week in the NE-monsoon season
