Dumaguete Port Anchorage

9° 18.6′ N · 123° 18.7′ E

An open anchorage off the university city of Dumaguete, south of the ferry wharf, with very good holding on a gently sloping sand bottom and the whole city a short walk from the seawall. In settled weather it is the best provisioning stop in southern Negros.

Practical

Noonsite (Dumaguete page, last updated about 10 years ago): 09 18.62'N 123 18.68'E. Anchor in about 5-7 m between south of the wharf and the next point; very good holding in sand. Many fishing bangkas are moored off and pulled up ashore. Dinghy landing: steps in the seawall or a small beach. A Noonsite report (2015) found it acceptable, with some plunging, in force 3-4 southerly winds; it is an open roadstead, so leave for Bonbonon in strong weather. Fuel and groceries are close by. LPG: the Auto-Gas station on Valencia Road just past the Hypermart fills propane tanks while you wait, and US aluminium tanks are fine (Noonsite). Keep clear of the ferry approaches to the port: the Dumaguete light is at 9.3136N 123.3112E (OSM, Fl 3s).
