Cresta de Gallo Anchorage

12° 11.2′ N · 122° 41.6′ E · approximate

A day anchorage off the lonely white-sand islet of Cresta de Gallo in the open Sibuyan Sea, south-east of Sibuyan, for swimming, snorkelling and diving its reef.

Practical

Approx: placed about 350–400 m west of the islet's west shore (OpenStreetMap coastline), not a published anchoring position. The islet is a narrow strip about 1.2 km long north–south and is surrounded by coral reef that slopes from about 5 m to 45 m (Wikivoyage dive listing): the fringing reef width is not charted in our sources, so approach in good light with a bow lookout and anchor in sand clear of coral, or stand off and dinghy in. Use the west side in the amihan (NE) and the east side in the habagat (SW); the whole spot is exposed in any real wind, so treat it as a calm-weather day stop and not an overnight anchorage. Cresta de Gallo light (Fl) at 12.18268, 122.69611 on the south end. No facilities; the nearest town is San Fernando, about 16 km north-west (Azagra port 12.2796, 122.6322). Local fishing grounds: watch for nets and traps.
