San Fernando Anchorage (Sibuyan)

12° 17.9′ N · 122° 36.1′ E

Off the main town of San Fernando on Sibuyan's south-west coast, under the jagged ridge of Mount Guiting-Guiting: the base for climbing it and for the Cantingas River.

Practical

Position: Solita (2012), 12°17.9'N 122°36.06'E, 4-5 m over sand in front of San Fernando town, gently shoaling to shore. Good protection from N to E, though wind bullets may come off the island; watch for a bommie in the NW corner of the bay about 400 m offshore. 'Very quiet'; jeepneys to other parts of the island. Arnak (2013) also anchored off nearby Cauit Point in 4 m sand with good NE shelter. Savannah (2014) could not get in against westerly wind and tide and anchored further east (see Sibuyan Southeast Anchorage). Exposed to the south and west, so treat it as an amihan stop. The island's other harbours are Magdiwang's Ambulong RoRo port (north, 12.4952, 122.4892) and Cajidiocan port (east, with a Coast Guard sub-station). Pump boats run from the town port to Roxas City (Panay); Azagra port (12.2796, 122.6322) is south-east. In town: see San Fernando Eateries for food, stores, bank and clinic; Casa de San Fernando heritage house. Friends of Solita trekked from here to the national park at Magdiwang. The Sibuyan Sea and Cresta de Gallo are productive fishing grounds; watch for nets and fish traps. Nickel-mining disputes (2023) centred on a causeway near San Fernando.
