Sibuyan Island Rainforest ('Galapagos of Asia')

12° 23.1′ N · 122° 33.7′ E

Sibuyan has never been joined to another landmass, and its intact forests from mangroves to mossy summit heath shelter remarkable endemic species.

Practical

Coordinates: Sibuyan Island (Wikipedia). Primary forest covers about 140 km2 (33% of the island); Mount Guiting-Guiting Natural Park protects 157 km2. Rivers such as the Cantingas are among the cleanest in the country. Nickel mining has been contested since 2023. Treat it as a nature destination: hire local guides and pack out everything.
