Capitancillo Island

10° 59.4′ N · 124° 6.2′ E

A small uninhabited coral island 6 km off Bogo in the Camotes Sea, a protected marine sanctuary with a 1950s white steel lighthouse and three dive sites - Ormoc Shoal, Núñez Shoal and the south-west wall.

Practical

No stores or accommodation; local boats run from Polambato Port, Nailon Wharf, Marangog Cove and Odlot (15-45 minutes). Webb (2009): reasonable anchorage off the south end in light NE weather; anchor on sand only. Light: 25 m tower, three white flashes every 10 seconds. Treat the sanctuary as no-take. The 2025 Bogo Bay Fault earthquake (epicentre off Daanbantayan) raised parts of the Bogo coast by about 1 m - expect changed depths near the Bogo shore and treat older chart soundings there with caution.

Best for

A wild lunch stop and wall snorkel between Carmen and Malapascua

Season

Light NE weather or calm; exposed otherwise
