Ultrafreeze Wreck (El Frío, Isla Mujeres)
21° 16.5′ N · 86° 43.5′ W · approximate
The oldest wreck off Isla Mujeres: a cargo vessel that caught fire at the dock in 1978 and was towed out and sunk in 1979. It rests at about 27-30 m (90-98 ft) and is nicknamed 'El Frío' for the colder water around it; barracuda, jacks and sometimes dolphins hang around it.
Practical
Coordinate is approximate and is NOT the wreck position: no published coordinate was found, so it is a representative point in open water off the north-east side of the island. Dive it only with a local shop, which will find and buoy the wreck. Depth 27-30 m (90-98 ft); a deep dive, often in strong current - Advanced or deep-dive certification and recent experience expected. Sources differ on the vessel type (cargo ship per Scuba Total, former fishing vessel per Squalo). Dive Against Debris surveys logged it at 25-30 m.
