Isla Mujeres Carnaval

21° 15.5′ N · 86° 44.8′ W · approximate

A week of parades, dance troupes (comparsas), the crowning of the carnival royalty and free concerts in the main square in the days before Ash Wednesday. The island fills up - hotels reported 99% occupancy in 2026.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: an OpenStreetMap memorial node in the downtown main-square area, standing in for the Explanada Municipal where the concerts and parades end. 2026 program ('Soy Isla Mujeres'): mainland events February 6-8 at Plaza Ejidatarios, island events February 12-17, with a children's coronation in La Gloria, galas at 7:30 pm in the main square, and afternoon street parades at 2:30 pm on Saturday, Sunday and Fat Tuesday. The final night includes the Show de Viudas and the reading of Juan Carnaval's will. Dates follow the Lent calendar each year. Expect loud music late into the night downtown and crowded ferries; the harbor anchorage is close to the noise.
