Sweet Pea Cove Anchorage (Isla San Marcos)

27° 13.9′ N · 112° 6.1′ W

An open roadstead on the west side of Isla San Marcos that gives just enough shelter for a restful stop between Punta Chivato and Santa Rosalía, with sea caves and rocky snorkel points to the north.

Practical

Sandy shelf near shore extends at least 3/4 nm south: anchor in 20-30 ft, good sand with some shell. Protected N and E; the point north of the anchorage adds shelter and good fishing/snorkeling. Keep well clear of Punta Piedra Blanca to the north. Arroyos funnel easterlies down into the bay. Can be wickedly hot on a calm summer afternoon. Squid boats work these waters in June and July. The Log: in strong south winds the Trinity Coves on San Marcos give better shelter than the Sweet Pea shelf.

Best for

Overnight stop on the Santa Rosalía run
