Majahual Port of Entry

Majahual (Mahahual) has a Capitanía de Puerto that can issue an international zarpe, making it the southernmost practical clearance point on Mexico's Caribbean coast before Belize - but immigration has to be brought in.

Practical

Coordinate is the village reference point (Wikipedia), not the office. From a January 2019 phone call with the Port Captain (Noonsite): office staffed 8 am-3 pm Monday-Friday, and 8 am-1 pm weekends in extreme cases; phone 983-834-5789. He can complete the zarpe but there is no immigration officer in Majahual: hire an agent (he named Grupo TMM) or bring officers from Chetumal (a 2-hour drive) at your cost; when cruise ships are in, immigration officers are present and it may be possible to clear out then. He recommended cruising boats clear in the north (Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, Puerto Morelos or Puerto Aventuras) instead. The Mahahual capitanía also issues navigation notices for Banco Chinchorro. Since 2026 agents are reported compulsory on the east coast (MXN 7,000 in / 5,000 out; MXN 983 per person immigration) - verify locally.
