Los Arcos Marine Park

20° 32.7′ N · 105° 17.5′ W

A cluster of granite sea stacks off Mismaloya, tunnelled with arches, caves and swim-throughs and protected as a marine park since 1984. The signature snorkel and dive of the south shore, and a seabird roost.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM nature-reserve node 'Los Arcos de Mismaloya'. Anchoring is no longer permitted at Los Arcos (Noonsite); visit by dinghy or tour panga from a boat anchored or moored elsewhere, or on a day trip from the city. Snorkel the caves and tunnels; diving and SUP also popular (Banderas News). In January 2026 Mismaloya residents blocked Highway 200 for five hours over fears of a private breakwater and lost beach access; the city council then asked SEMARNAT to clarify the area's legal status and fast-track a Natural Protected Area decree. The Marigalante pirate-ship replica sank in heavy seas near Los Arcos / Hotel Buenaventura on October 10, 2025; ask locally about any wreck hazard. Exposed to the afternoon sea breeze and to swell; best in the calm morning.

Best for

Morning snorkel among arches and caves

Season

Best Nov–May mornings; summer rains cloud the water near river mouths
