Islas Marietas Day-Use Moorings

20° 41.6′ N · 105° 34.8′ W · approximate

Private yachts visiting the Marietas must stay off the bottom: the park bans anchoring to protect coral that had been hit by up to 250 anchor drops a day before the 2016 closure. Plan a permitted, daylight visit and tie up only where CONANP allows.

Practical

Coordinate is an approximate open-water point about 0.65 km south of Isla Larga for reference only; it is NOT a surveyed mooring position. Anchoring is no longer permitted at Isla Marietas (Noonsite). In 2016 Latitude 38 reported that private yachts could, after obtaining a permit in Puerto Vallarta, overnight at the Marietas up to four nights a month; current permit terms, mooring availability and fees could not be verified from an official source, so contact the CONANP park office (via the Puerto Vallarta / Nuevo Vallarta port captains or your marina) before going. Water is 70 to 110 ft deep around the islands. Open to swell from the west and south; leave before the afternoon thermal builds if conditions are marginal. No-take zone.
