Banderas Bay Blast and Punta Mita Yacht & Surf Club

20° 46.2′ N · 105° 31.1′ W · approximate

A three-race, mostly-for-fun cruiser regatta run by the Punta Mita Yacht & Surf Club and the Vallarta Yacht Club each December after the Baja Ha-Ha arrives, raising money for the children's food program in Punta Mita. The 'club' is a beach-party institution: a $1 lifetime membership and a ceremonial swat from the commodore.

Practical

Coordinate is the Punta de Mita anchorage (approx), where the Blast is based. The 2024 Blast (reported December 18, 2024) drew about 19 to 20 boats in cruising, multihull and racing divisions; the last race is the 'Pirates for Pupils' spinnaker run from Mita to Paradise Marina in Nuevo Vallarta. Results are posted by the Vallarta Yacht Club. The 2024 edition raised $3,500 for the kindergarten food program. Latitude 38 also notes a big Ha-Ha welcome party in La Cruz in mid-December. Check the Vallarta Yacht Club events calendar for dates each year.
